How We Work

From Archive to Everyday

Every HoopLocal piece follows a three-step path that no fast fashion brand could replicate.

Assamese handloom heritage collage — research, archives and artisans

We Research

We go to the source — archives, artisans, museums, and weavers — to understand each motif: its origin, its community, its meaning. Nothing goes on fabric without its story being known first.

We Embroider

Using precision computerized embroidery, we translate each researched motif faithfully onto fabric. Every stitch is a deliberate act of cultural preservation, not just craft.

You Wear

The result is something you actually reach for — a waistcoat for a meeting, a tote for a Tuesday, a cap for a weekend. The motif lives where it always should: on a body, in daily life.

"These motifs were never meant to live only in museums or on festival days. They were the everyday language of the people who created them. We are simply returning them to where they belong."

The Motifs We Carry

Each design in our collection comes with its origin, its meaning, and the community that created it. This is what makes a HoopLocal piece different from anything else you own.

Kingkhap motif — red paisley folk art medallion from Assam
01

Kingkhap

Ahom Dynasty · Assam · Est. 7th Century

The Kingkhap is one of Assam's most revered royal motifs — two lions facing each other, woven originally in gold and silver thread. It was the mark of the Ahom queens, a dynasty that ruled Assam for nearly 600 years and never fell to Mughal conquest. The motif represents sovereignty, nobility, and the unbroken pride of a culture that refused to disappear. On a HoopLocal piece, that spirit travels with you.

Royal Sovereignty · Courage · Heritage

Bisoni Gai motif — symmetrical red and black folk geometric motif
02

Bisoni Gai

Assamese Folk Tradition · Mekhela Sador

Where Kingkhap speaks of royalty, the Bisoni Gai speaks of life. Inspired by the bisoni — the traditional Assamese hand fan — this design has been woven into sarees and Mekhela Sadors for generations. It is the geometry of an everyday object elevated into art: functional beauty, passed from mother to daughter, worn at festivals and on ordinary mornings alike. Grace in the details. Meaning in the ordinary.

Our Story

The Stitch That Started a Conversation

"If not now, then when? If not us, then who?"

There was no single moment. No grandmother sitting by a lamp, no childhood memory of a loom. Just years of living in the Northeast — breathing its air, walking through its markets, watching its festivals — and slowly, quietly, noticing something.

The motifs were disappearing. Not all at once. Not dramatically. Just gently fading, the way old photographs do. And one day, the question would not go away anymore.

HoopLocal is not a fashion brand. It is a conversation between the past and the present — stitched into fabric you can wear on a Tuesday morning.

The New Tribe

We believe there is a new tribe forming. People who are rooted and modern at the same time. People who want their clothes to mean something. People who are proud of where they come from and unafraid to show it — not just on Bihu, not just at festivals, but every single day.

If you are one of them, you are already home.

FAQs

Questions? We Have Answers.

HoopLocal is a Guwahati-based brand that takes traditional motifs from Assam and the Northeast — carefully researched for their cultural meaning — and embroiders them onto modern everyday wear like waistcoats, tote bags, and caps. Unlike purely decorative fashion, every HoopLocal piece comes with the documented story of the motif it carries.

The easiest way is via WhatsApp at +91 70023 66500 — just send us the product name, your size (if applicable), and delivery address. We'll confirm availability, share payment details, and keep you updated on your order. You can also email us at hooplocalnein@gmail.com.

Absolutely. We welcome custom embroidery requests and bulk corporate orders — gifting, events, institutional wear. WhatsApp us to discuss your requirements and we'll put together a quote.

Hand wash or use a gentle machine cycle (cold water, inside-out). Avoid wringing. Do not tumble dry. Iron on the reverse side only, avoiding the embroidery directly. Proper care keeps your HoopLocal piece beautiful for years.

Currently we ship across India. International shipping for the Indian diaspora is something we are working towards — if you are based abroad and interested in ordering, do WhatsApp us and we'll do our best to find a way.

Yes. We research every motif before it goes onto any product — through artisan conversations, museum archives, cultural institutions, and community sources. We document the origin, cultural context, and community credit for every design. We do not invent or appropriate: everything we use is documented and attributed.
